For diehard rock 'n' roll fans from all walks of life, from every corner of the world, the annual happening known as Rock Fest in Cadott (Latitude: 44.95 N, Longitude: 91.15 W), Wisconsin is one of the biggest classic rock festivals of the summer! For some fans it's a week long vacation...for others it's an annual get together with a few thousand friends. Although it tends to fly under the radar, Rock Fest has morphed into one of the nation's premier outdoor music events. With a star studded lineup every year, lots of delicious food, plenty of room for camping, and outstanding sponsor participation, Rock Fest is the best kept secret for classic rock fans throughout the Midwest.
Rock Fest is a quasi-Woodstock for baby boomers taking place each year in mid-summer on farmland east of Chippewa Falls in Western Wisconsin, roughly 110 miles east of metropolitan Minneapolis/St. Paul. The 320 acre facility where Rock Fest takes place, which is located almost exactly in between the equator and the North Pole, is practically transformed into a small city during this four day music festival. With 8,000 spacious campsites that are located adjacent to the concert area, the festival attendee's can walk to the rock show and back to their campsite in between performances. No long walks and no shuttle busses are required. The campgrounds at Rock Fest feature all the spoils of a modern campground: hot showers, fresh water, parking, garbage and recycling service, medical and convenient stores, and a state-of-the-art RV dumping station!
The festival attracts nearly 25,000 fans each year many of which seem to make the pilgrimage to Rock Fest on a yearly basis. Fans enjoy a natural amphitheater with a superb sound system and jumbo screens, a picture-taking line up to the stage, and all of the other amenities one would expect to see at a big time outdoor music festival. The weather can range from sunny and hot to wet and windy, which only seems to add to the excitement of the festival.
