The Resch Center opened its doors on August 25, 2002. The ever expanding population of Green Bay certainly welcomed the addition of a state-of-the-art entertainment facility. Named for executive Dick Resch, the Resch Center is one of the newest additions to the list of venue options in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Funding for the $49 million Resch Center came from both public and private donations and tax revenue.
The Resch Center is prominently positioned walking distance from many local taverns and eateries as well as historic Lambeau Field; home of the NFL’s Green Bay Packers. Part of the Brown County Veterans Memorial Complex, which includes the Memorial Arena and Shopko Hall, the Resch Center encompasses approximately 120,000 square feet in the heart of Packer country.
With seating for 10,000, the Resch Center is estimated to host nearly 1.2 million people each year. Besides standard seating, there are 25 luxury suites at the Resch Center, as well as club seating. The Resch Center has hosted an average of 370 events each year it’s been in operation.
The Resch Center is important to the Green Bay area as it accommodates top musical acts such as Elton John, Tim McGraw, Aerosmith and Kenny Chesney. Prior to the opening of the Resch Center with a concert by the band Tool, Northeastern Wisconsin hadn’t seen top names of this caliber before. Two of the first four shows at the Resch Center played to sold out crowds. Tickets to see Shania Twain at the Resch Center sold out in less than an hour!
On his campaign trail, President Bush spoke at a rally held at the Resch Center in the summer of 2004.
Not just home to concerts, the Resch Center is home to the UW-Green Bay Phoenix men’s basketball team, the Green Bay Blizzard arena football team and the Green Bay Gamblers amateur hockey team. The Resch Center has also hosted Milwaukee Bucks exhibition games in recent years. The UW-Madison men’s hockey team has plans to kick of its 2006 season at the Resch Center. The venue is certainly filling a need in the Northeastern Wisconsin entertainment market.
In early 2006, the Resch Center hosted NCAA’s Midwest Regional hockey, two weeks before Milwaukee’s Bradley Center’s Frozen Four. This was the first time the Green Bay area hosted an NCAA Division 1 tournament play in any sport.
