Toyota Center History

Located in the heart of downtown Houston, Toyota Center opened in October 2003 as the new home of the Houston Rockets. Built over 20 months, the arena marked a major upgrade from the old Compaq Center (originally The Summit), which had been the team’s venue since 1975.

The arena offers seating for approximately 18,300 spectators during Rockets games and expands to around 19,200 for concert events. When it first opened, it was briefly known as the Reynolds Center before securing naming rights under the Toyota partnership.
